James Street now has a core group of operators that make themselves available at shows to help Steve run the layout. You can read about them all here in this very section!

However, we still need MORE operators, even if not available for every exhibition (There's usually at least one of the regulars that cant make it).

The layout now has 8 operating positions, some of which remain 'vacant' and therefore the layout is not being used to its full potential, we also need to factor in lunch periods, breaks and the actual want to see other exhibits/trade stands. At a busy show we like to keep trains moving and have plenty of shunting and other operations. we are not a layout that will run the same train(s) over the course of a show weekend and we like to run the layout as much for our enjoyment as for the show visitors.

We are either on the look out for new permanent team members who are willing to join the exisitng team and take one of the vacant operating positions, or anyone that wants to help out on a more 'ad-hoc' basis - although the layout looks complex and can be quite daunting, Steve has crib sheets for each location and training will be provided!

Location wise, Home Counties might be an advantage for running practice, (in Steve's garage - Near Chelmsford, Essex) but certainly not essential, given our spread, and many of the hoped-for invites will be Midlands and North.

The layout is DC, with all points and route setting done by stud and probe, so no experience of complex control systems is needed, each location has it's own panel and aside from the occasional overlap into different parts of the layout are mostly self contained. There are also failsafes built in to avoid any serious mishaps and running across other areas.
