Martyn Daw

My interest started with Lone Star push-along models, together with Dinky and Matchbox cars. I then went on to British HO with Playcraft when I was about five. When this was no longer produced, I added Triang-Hornby stock, and always wondered at that age why the size of stock was different. I also built a large number of Airfix-style kits.

In 1977, I tried N gauge and enjoyed it, but due to the lack of British outline models for my chosen area and era, I reverted to OO. In OO I did a lot of kit-building and detailing of stock, including 3-link couplings on wagons, and buckeyes on coaches. I also had a brief time trying EM, but decided this was not the way for me. After getting married and having the luxury of a spare room, I returned to N gauge, where I have remained ever since. .

My interests are in the former Great Eastern section of the Eastern Region, and this has stayed with me throughout all of my modelling. I have made a large number of kits, both stock and locos, but with ever better RTR being available, these are now mostly replaced at exhibitions. I was a team member of on Steve's "Lynford Junction" in the 1990's, supplying most of the ER stock, and I am pleased to say that I do the same for James Street. As a former Navigating Officer on ships, and still involved in ports and shipping, I also built the two ships for the harbour scene. I am also a member of the team exhibiting "Saneham Tey" and have my own layout loosely based on Ipswich, with a branch to Ongar, at home.

On "James Street" I can normally be found operating the terminus itself, plus trains to "Lynford Junction Lower Level".
