Steve gave me an Artitec model of a Dutch river barge called a Tjalk type. This would not have been seen in the UK, but it was assumed it was a UK owned river or large canal barge enroute to and from the main port for its cargo.
This was a relatively quick and easy build with good instructions, and the parts fitted very well. It is modelled with one hatch open, loaded with bagged and crated cargoes
Ship 7
Ship 8
It was decided a tug would be a good addition, so a Langley kit of the WW2 TID type was obtained second hand, but it was already built up. I'm not sure of how the actual kit looks, but it was decided to modify the tug a little. I took the wheelhouse off (I think it was wrong way round), stripped the paintwork off, took some of the added detail off, repainted it, then added some new parts.
This was mainly to replace the wheelhouse, add various towing details (hook and slider), ventilators, lifeboat, anchor, and a few other fittings. It was repainted, and the rubbing band was lined in white. I'm not overly happy with the result, as the accommodation is probably too big for a TID, but overall it fits the bill quite well.
Now back to the big ships...
